Psychomagic and Artistic Approach to the Unconscious in and through Cinematic Works

Date: July 11 – 14, 2025 / Location: Trieste

The 4-day intensive seminar “FEMININE ARCHETYPES & PSYCHOMAGIC” is a course in a series of workshops at the intersection of avant-garde cinema and depth psychology concepts. In this four-day workshop, we will delve into the psychological concept of the feminine archetypes, exploring how these have been addressed in film history, psychoanalysis, and mythology.

Learning Outcomes:

Theoretical Understanding of Feminine Archetypes:
Participants will gain a thorough theoretical understanding of the feminine archetypes as they appear in psychology, particularly in Carl Gustav Jung’s depth psychology, as well as in various mythological narratives. They will explore the symbolic meaning of archetypes such as the Mother, the Maiden, the Witch, and the Wise Old Woman, and learn about their impact on both the individual and collective psyche.

Analytical Skills in Relation to Filmic Works:
Through the analysis of historical films dealing with feminine archetypes, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how these archetypes are portrayed and interpreted in cinema. They will learn how filmmakers use cinematic techniques and narrative structures to visualize these archetypal figures and the psychological significance behind their representation.

Personal Self-Exploration and Artistic Expression:
Participants will gain new insights into their own relationship with the feminine archetypes through creative exercises and cinematic experiments. They will explore how they recognize these archetypes within themselves and reflect on them through their own artistic expression. The focus will be on engaging with their own feminine identity and the archetypal forces within.

Development of a Personal Artistic Exploration of the Feminine Archetypes:
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created their own artistic or cinematic exploration of one or more feminine archetypes. They will experiment with different techniques to visualize and express their personal perspective and creative interpretation of these archetypes.

Schedule:
Thu–Sat: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM (including multiple breaks and a communal dinner, which also serves as a debrief and planning session for the next day). Sun: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Fees: The participation fee is €580 per person, including meals (accommodation not included).
